NYK's Auto Logistics Group continue to expand their services with a strong focus on securing local investments especially in emerging markets. It currently has more than 15 vehicle terminal operations in ports and inland facilities including Europe, Russia, China and Thailand. NYK has also expanded their inland logistics services to countries such as Indonesia, India, China, Malaysia, the Philippines and Russia. International Car Operators (ICO) Belgium, a subsidiary of NYK's RORO Division, has been awarded a deal with Nissan for an additional 95,000 vehicles being processed through the port of Zeebrugge. From February 2014 ICO will provide storage and Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) services before the units are distributed to France and Benelux Region. NYK RORO and PT Puninar Jaya have launched a joint venture company to offer total logistics solutions for their customers in Indonesia. This newly formed Company, called NYK Puninar Auto Logistics Indonesia (NPALI) will be able to offer domestic logistics services within the islands of Indonesia aswel as international services beyond.

NYK will be looking to combine their global RORO Shipping network with Puninar Jaya's 44 years experience in the logistics market to create a total door to door logistics service for their customers.

 

NYK RORO are currently building four next generation car carriers which are due for completion in 2014 & 2015. These new Vessels will have a capacity for 7,000 vehicles (previously 6,500 maximum) and NYK will be the first Japanese Shipping Line to operate such large post Panamax Car Carriers.

These new RORO Vessels will also showcase the latest energy saving technologies, lowering the fuel cost per finished vehicle transported by roughly one third compared to present.

 Energy Saving Technologies:

  • Enlarging vessel design - 3 to 4m has been added to the traditional 32m width of the vessel
  • Air lubrication system - reducing friction between the hull and seawater by generating air bubbles at the bottom of the vessel.
  • Low friction hull coating
  • Hybrid turbocharger - new on-board electric supply system
  • Inverter control of cooling water pump
  • Water emulsion compatible boiler - water emulsion fuel is potentially high efficiency, saving on fuel consumption and C02 emissions.
  • Performance monitoring system

 

As of 15th January 2014 NYK Holding Europe BV, an NYK Group Company, has acquired 100% ownership of Tranco Terminal, the largest car terminal operating in Kazakhstan.

NYK's expertise will contribute to further improve local Terminal operations in order to meet specific customer requirements in a market which is rapidly expanding. It is also envisaged that NYK will be able to offer more efficient inland logistics solutions in order to ensure on-time delivery for their customers .

In addition, NYK will further develop the inland logistics infrastructure between Kazakhstan and the neighbouring Countries of China and Russia in line with their customer's needs.
